The fake crying tell I finally spotted after 3 years of watching these
I used to just look at whether a celebrity cried or not to judge if an apology was real. That completely changed last month when I watched that James Charles apology from 2021 again. I timed it and he took a pause exactly 8 seconds in, looked down, then rubbed his eyes with no tears showing. Called a buddy who studies body language and he told me real crying usually has irregular breathing and sniffles, not just a long stare at the floor. Now I watch for things like lip quiver timing and if they actually blink away tears. Has anyone else noticed a specific fake move that tipped you off?

Not sure we need to turn every public apology into a forensic analysis. Plenty of people with different emotional styles might look down or pause without it meaning they're faking. Maybe sometimes a teary moment is just a teary moment without being a whole performance.

The whole "looking down and rubbing their eyes" move is almost always a stall tactic... real crying makes you want to hide your face, not time it out for drama. Watch their throat too, if they swallow hard and their voice cracks naturally, that's harder to fake than tears. Another big one for me is when they suddenly stop crying the second the camera angle changes or they're done talking, genuine upset lingers for a bit even when they're not the focus. Also pay attention to their nostrils flaring during the sob, real crying forces you to breathe through your mouth and your nose runs.

Three tears don't mean fake, some people just show emotion differently than others.
