TIL a real apology sounds boring, and that clicked for me at a diner in Tulsa
I was sitting at a diner in Tulsa last week and the TV above the counter was playing some pop star's 11 minute apology with the crying and the pauses. The sound was off so I just watched the face and hands, and it hit me that the ones who mean it never spend that long on camera, because saying sorry to one person takes like 20 seconds. Does anyone else think the length of an apology is the biggest tell, or am I reading too much into it?

I used to roll my eyes at the short apologies, honestly. Like when my buddy just said "my bad" after wrecking my laptop and I thought he didn't care because he didn't say much. But then I thought about the time I hurt my sister pretty bad and I gave her this long rambling thing with excuses mixed in, and she just looked at me and said "you're making this about you." That stopped me cold. Now when someone goes on and on with the tears and the pauses, I wonder who the show is really for. Real sorry usually looks like one sentence, a plain face, and then actually changing something.
