Warning: That celebrity apology workshop cost me $400 and it was a complete waste
I paid $400 for a three hour online seminar from a woman who claims she coaches stars on how to write apology videos. She just read off slides about making eye contact and using the right words. My nephew could have done better with a free YouTube tutorial. Has anyone else tried one of these apology coaching services and actually gotten real help?

The whole "coaching celebrities on apologies" thing sounds like a marketing gimmick anyway. Anyone can read off slides about making eye contact, but actually delivering a genuine apology takes more than that.

Man that stinks, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me last year. I paid $300 for a "crisis communication coach" to help me handle a public screw up at work and all I got was a PDF and a 45 minute Zoom call where she read bullet points about "taking ownership." The free advice I got from an old PR guy on Reddit was way more useful, he just said to record yourself on your phone and watch it back until you sound like a normal person and not a robot. These coaches are just selling fancy versions of stuff you can learn for free.

You know, @the_claire, you've got a real point there. I actually tried something similar a few years back for a local council apology after we messed up a big move, and the best advice I got was from a guy who just told me to sit down, look the camera in the lens, and say exactly what I did wrong without making excuses. That free advice worked way better than any slide show. Slides can't teach you how to sound human when you're nervous. I bet that woman's whole seminar could have been an email and two videos. Sorry you got burned on that one, Quinn. It really sounds like you paid for a fancy reading lesson.
