Why I changed my mind about Jada Pinkett Smith's apology

I used to think her whole August 2021 statement was just damage control, pure Hollywood PR. Then I listened to a clip from her Red Table Talk where she talked about her own upbringing and how she learned to deflect blame. Hearing her admit she had to unlearn that pattern made me realize she was actually doing the work, not just reading a script. Has anyone else heard that episode and felt the same shift?

Question whether a celebrity actually changes their whole life based on one TV episode.

Figure they probably already had some of those changes in mind and the show just gave them a push. @torres.blair maybe the bigger question is why we assume one episode means they completely flipped overnight instead of just finally trying something they already wanted to.

Exactly. People forget that celebs have teams of people giving them feedback constantly. That episode might have just been the final straw or the validation they needed to go for it. Something else to think about is how much of this is actually about controlling the narrative. Maybe the real change happened months ago and they're just now using the show as a convenient excuse to roll it out publicly. It makes them look relatable and responsive to fans instead of admitting they were already planning a shift for business reasons. And let's be real, a single episode isn't that powerful unless you already had some doubts or ideas brewing underneath. So yeah, it's probably less about the show magically rewiring their brain and more about timing and branding.
