Called BS on that story about Beyonce's recording sessions until I talked to an engineer

Honestly, I saw that rumor that Beyonce records all her vocals in one take, no overdubs. Thought it was just PR fluff. But last month my cousin's friend works at Electric Lady Studios in NYC and told me that for Lemonade she literally did 14 tracks back to back without a break. The tape operator confirmed it. Has anyone else heard a wild claim that turned out to be true after getting insider info?

Funny you mention Electric Lady, I actually had a similar thing happen with a totally different artist. I used to work at a studio in Nashville and everyone swore this one country singer did all their own drums live. I heard it from so many people, thought it was just a gimmick. Then one day I was in the control room while they were tracking and sure enough the guy just sat down and played through the whole song no click track no punches. The engineer told me they'd been doing it that way for years because the producer thought it kept the feel real. I was dead wrong about that one, felt like an idiot for doubting it. So yeah, the studio guys know what's up, they don't have a reason to lie about that stuff.

Took me a while to learn that too, honestly. I used to think any talk of live takes was just old school bragging until I saw a session where the drummer played a full take with no edits and it was perfect. Now I just assume the people in the room know more than me unless I see proof otherwise.

Totally @smith.elliot, I still feel dumb for doubting that Beyonce thing.
