My client's friend swore she saw a celebrity couple fighting, but the details were all wrong.

I was laying vinyl planks in this high end condo when the owner's friend came over. She was going on about spotting those two actors from that spy movie having a huge argument at some tiny airport diner. Thing is, she said it was last Tuesday, but I saw online they were filming on location in Europe that whole week. The story just fell apart when you checked the basic facts.

Consider how messed up our sense of reality gets from all the edited clips and AI videos online. That friend might have watched a deepfake or a scene from a parody account and her brain filed it as a real memory. @ben155 is spot on about the dates, but sometimes the mix-up starts way before the calendar check. I read about regular people being convinced they met someone famous because of a convincing TikTok filter. So her story could be a sign of how hard it is to trust your own eyes now, not just wanting gossip to be true.

Classic case of someone wanting their gossip to be true SO badly they forget how calendars work. Like maybe the diner had a really convincing look-alike serving bad coffee, or she saw their ghosts because jet lag is a trip. Next she'll swear they were fighting over who forgot to return a library book in 1992. Some people just like the story more than the facts.

Actually that's a fair point about deepfakes adding another layer! The original story I was poking fun at was just a basic date mix-up, like someone mixing up a Tuesday with a Thursday. You're totally right that the high-tech stuff makes it a whole different, scarier problem. It's one thing to forget what day it was, and another to have your eyes truly tricked by a fake video. That friend's story might come from either place, but my money's still on the old fashioned calendar blunder for this one.
