Selena Gomez's new singing voice sounds totally different since August

I heard her new song on the radio yesterday and I swear her voice has a completely different tone and breathiness compared to her Rare album from 2020. Did she start taking vocal lessons or is it just better production after her documentary came out? Anyone know if there's a real reason behind the change?

Right! And honestly I've noticed she's been singing more from her diaphragm lately which makes her sound fuller and warmer compared to the breathy whispery thing she used to do all the time. I think the lupus meds and her break from touring probably changed her vocal technique naturally too.

Yeah totally agree! Her voice has this really nice mature quality now that suits the newer arrangements so much better than the whispery style.

Alice, did you also listen to her recent live session on KEXP? Her breath control is so much better now, you can hear her actually powering through the long notes instead of just trailing off. I've been comparing her 2021 album to the new singles and the difference in her tone is night and day - that warm, resonant quality you're talking about really comes through on the low register stuff. Her technique shift reminds me of when I started taking voice lessons a few years back and realized I was overusing my throat instead of my diaphragm.
