Shoutout to my cousin for calling out that Selena Gomez engagement rumor

My cousin texted me last week saying she saw a blind item about Selena getting engaged to Benny Blanco. I almost believed it because the source seemed legit lol. But my cousin pointed out the post was from a throwaway account with no track record. Turns out it was just fan fiction, glad I didn't share it. Anyone else have a family member who keeps you from falling for fake gossip?

Know a buddy who almost fell for that "Drake and Rihanna getting back together" story last year because someone photoshopped a text convo. @blair_chen81 It wasn't until his roommate pointed out the timestamp was from 2017 that he realized how dumb he almost looked. Gotta have people around who call out the obvious fake stuff before you embarrass yourself.

Wait so did your cousin find any other posts from that same throwaway account, or was it just a one-off thing... I always wonder if these people are doing it for attention or actually trying to start rumors on purpose.

Jumped on this thread because my aunt literally saved me from believing the "Beyonce is retiring" rumor last month. She saw me about to share it and was like "girl, that account has 12 followers and a profile pic of a cartoon cat, come on." I mean it's embarrassing but also kind of funny how easily we buy into stuff when it's exciting. My cousin sounds like a solid fact checker though, those throwaway accounts are always sus.
