I spent a whole Sunday tracking down a viral rumor that a certain A-lister got married in Vegas last week, only to find the original source was a blurry photo from 2019. Has anyone else run into how long it takes to untangle these things once they spread?

Oh, tell me about it. I once spent nearly four hours trying to track down a story about some singer supposedly buying a castle in Scotland. Turned out the photo was from a movie set she worked on years ago. It's maddening how these things just take on a life of their own online.

Has this ever happened to you where you start down one rabbit hole and end up somewhere completely different? I had a similar thing last month with @grantw41 and his bear story reminded me of it. I was trying to confirm if a local diner really had a secret menu from the 1970s, and three hours later I was reading about some guy who claimed Elvis worked at a gas station in Montana. Turned out the whole thing was just an old urban legend that got mixed up with a different town's tall tale. It's amazing how a tiny bit of truth can get twisted into something completely made up.
