The 2007 Britney VMAs meltdown is now the gold standard for gossip sites, but the coverage back then was totally different

I was looking at old tabloid scans from that September and the way they described it was almost sympathetic, like she was going through a hard time. Now every article about a celeb breakdown has 20 slides of analysis, body language experts, and speculation about their team. Has anyone else noticed how much more ruthless the commentary got since social media gave everyone a hot take button?

gotta push back on @the_eric a bit, grocery store cashiers aren't getting papped outside their houses with 50 zoom lenses. but yeah the coverage is different now, it's just more noise. back then it was one or two big mags calling the shots, now every tweet from some rando gets picked up like it's breaking news. the real change is nobody waits for facts anymore, they just post the first take that fits their narrative. honestly half these "body language experts" are just people who watched too much CSI and want to feel important.

Every cashier at my local grocery store gets filmed more sympathetically than celebs did back then.
