Tried that celeb lip reading claim from a TikTok about a coffee shop fight and got totally different words
Some gossip account posted a slowed down clip of two singers yelling outside a cafe in LA and swore the lip reader caught one calling the other a fake. I tried the same freeze frame trick on my laptop and got something about a parking spot, so I posted my version and 200 people argued with me in the replies. Did I just pick the wrong frame or is lip reading gossip mostly made up?
Figured lip reading was solid proof until I actually tried it myself on a clip of my cousin yelling at a ref at a ball game. Watched it with no sound and got "that was a bad call," then turned the sound on and he was saying something totally different about a parking lot. The mouth shapes for so many words look the same, like "bad" and "mad" or "call" and "tall," so you're basically guessing half the time. Those gossip accounts know this and just pick whatever frame fits the story they want. You didn't pick the wrong frame, the whole thing is mostly a coin flip dressed up as science.
