Bought a $200 cast iron pan and it cracked on my flattop

Last month I splurged on a fancy cast iron pan for my saute station, thinking it'd be the best thing since sliced bread. Within two weeks, I hit it against the edge of my flattop while flipping a burger and it split right down the middle. The heat from the flattop plus that little tap was just too much for it. Has anyone else had luck with cheaper cast iron instead, or did I just get a bad batch?

Man, that sucks. I dropped a cheap lodge once and it just dented the floor, so hearing a $200 one crack like that is wild. Honestly, cast iron can be a lottery sometimes, heat shock and a tap can do way more damage than people think. Hope you can get a refund or swap, cause that ain't normal wear and tear.

Is it really fair to blame the metal when a drop like that can crack almost any pan though? A cheap lodge survives because it's thick and heavy, while the fancy ones are often thinner to heat up faster, so they give more on impact. That crack sounds more like bad luck on the fall than a flaw in the casting, and I'd still try the warranty before calling it a lottery.
