PSA: I just blew $300 on a 'miracle' mandoline that's now in the trash
I saw an ad for a fancy mandoline that swore it could julienne anything with zero effort. The thing arrived, and the safety guard was so big and clumsy I couldn't hold a carrot right. I tried to use it without the guard for one second, just to see, and I took a perfect slice off my thumb. The mandoline is gone, and I'm out the cash plus the cost of bandages. Has anyone found a good, safe tool for fine veg prep that doesn't feel like you're wrestling with it?

Ouch, a perfect slice of your thumb?

Actually, a clean cut heals way faster than a jagged tear.

Tell me about it. I once tried to open a package with a butter knife and ended up with a tear that looked like a tiny mountain range. Took forever to close up.
