So tired of home cooks over-salting the water

I work the line at a busy spot in Denver and we had a new prep cook dump a whole cup of salt into a 4-gallon pasta pot. Said he saw it on a TikTok video. Noodles came out so salty we had to toss the whole batch. Cost us like $12 in pasta and another 20 minutes of cook time. Has anyone else had to deal with people who watch too many food influencers?

Nah you only need like a tablespoon for a big pot, that TikTok guy was way off.

Man, that's a solid point @felixm29. It's funny how people online always act like you need a whole bottle of something when most recipes are way more forgiving than they let on. I've noticed that pattern everywhere lately, not just in cooking but in DIY stuff too folks always think you need the most expensive or complicated method when simple gets the job done. Your mileage may vary of course, but I'd trust a real person's experience over a viral video any day. TikTok is great for entertainment but not always the best for practical advice.

People forget that a lot of these viral recipes are trying to sell you something (like a specific brand or bottle). One tablespoon is all the depth you need, the rest is just showing off.
