That $200 knife sharpener I bought 3 years ago finally paid off tonight

Picked up a fancy electric sharpener back in 2021 for $200 because I was tired of dull blades slowing me down during service. Used it maybe once a month since then, figured it was a waste. But tonight during a brutal Saturday rush, my chef knife was getting dull halfway through and 30 seconds on the sharpener got it back to razor sharp. Anyone else got a tool they thought was overpriced but ended up being a lifesaver?

Feel your pain on that one. I spent $150 on a good manual pull-through sharpener a few years back and thought I was crazy until a busy Sunday brunch where my knife went dull right when I needed to slice through a stack of tomatoes. 30 seconds on that thing and it was back to scary sharp, saved me from having to run to the back and grab a backup. It's one of those things where you don't realize how much time you waste fighting a dull blade until you have a fix. Sounds like yours paid for itself in stress relief alone, not to mention the actual money saved on replacement knives. Glad you got that win tonight.

Bet you never thought about using a cheap electric hair clipper to sharpen kitchen shears. Works better than any dedicated sharpener I've tried.

Had a buddy who dropped serious cash on a professional-grade mandoline slicer, swore he'd never use it. Then he came over for a party and @evan_davis handed him a pile of potatoes to slice for some scalloped thing. Changed his whole tune after that, said it paid for itself in ten minutes of work. Good tools just make the job less miserable.
