TIL that $40 'chef grade' knife sharpener was just a scam
I bought one of those pull-through sharpeners from a kitchen supply shop downtown and it wrecked the edge on my Wusthof after 3 uses. Anyone else had better luck with a whetstone over those gimmicky gadgets?

and honestly amyh12 is probably just used to working with a dull knife so the pull through feels like an upgrade. the problem is those things remove way too much metal and they scrape the edge instead of actually honing it. i spent a saturday afternoon learning with a $20 whetstone and a beater knife and now my wusthofs are sharper than they were out of the box. once you get the angle right you'll never go back to those plastic things.
