Warning: my mandoline slicer blade cracked mid-shift and it was a mess
So I was prepping for service last Thursday, going through a case of zucchini for a summer squash dish, and my trusty mandoline just gave up. The blade actually cracked right in the middle of a slice, not the guard but the actual cutting edge. I didn't notice at first and ended up with a weird jagged cut on a batch that went straight to garnish. Caught it before anything hit the plate but I had to hand-slice the rest, which killed my timing. I've had this thing for maybe 3 years and never dropped it or anything, so I'm not sure if it was a manufacturing defect or just wear from all the acid from tomatoes and citrus. Has anyone else had a blade fail like that out of nowhere? I'm looking at a replacement now and wondering if I should just go with a different brand altogether.

And the mandoline gods decided to just nope out mid-service, classic. I had one snap on me during a lemon zest session and it felt like the universe was personally attacking my mise en place. Did you at least get a good scream out of it before the hand slicing disaster?

Not the mandoline gods, @young.ryan, my zester snapped mid-garnish and I nearly launched it across the kitchen.
