A judge told me to stop reading my notes, best legal advice I ever got

Honestly, I was in a landlord tenant hearing over a $900 deposit dispute and I kept flipping through my binder like a madman. The judge finally said, 'Counselor, if you need the paper that bad, then you don't know your case.' That hit different. I stopped bringing more than one page to any hearing, and now I just talk straight from the facts I actually remember. Has anyone else had a magistrate or judge call them out in a way that actually improved their whole approach?
