Chatted with a tenant lawyer at a dive bar on Milwaukee Ave and now I'm torn about rent control
She said rent control keeps neighborhoods stable for working families but my buddy swears it kills new building investment in Chicago and now I don't know which side is right, anyone got actual court experience with this?

Ugh, that's such a tough spot to be in lol. It sucks that we gotta choose between keeping places affordable and actually getting new places built.

Choose between paying the rent or having a new Target within walking distance, easy call.

Man, that dive bar on Milwaukee brings back memories. I used to live off that stretch back in 2014 and my landlord tried to jack my rent $400 in one year. The whole rent control thing is so messy though. My cousin works construction and he says whenever talk of it comes up, the developers he works with just pull their plans for new buildings and go build in the suburbs instead. So you basically gotta pick between affordable old places or new stuff getting built.
