Cook County eviction filings made me rethink the whole process

I talked to a housing court clerk on Wednesday after waiting 2 hours for my landlord case number. She told me most tenants who show up without a lawyer lose because they miss one paperwork step, not because they are wrong. That hit different since I almost represented myself last month to save $350. She said even a free 15 minute consult with a legal aid group can spot errors in the filing that kill the case. Now I look at every notice I get like it's a puzzle box with traps inside. Has anyone else walked into the Daley Center alone and wished they had brought a pro just to read the forms?
