Five years of parking tickets taught me to read the fine print on the sign

Used to just eyeball the meter and hope, got hit with $380 in tickets around Wicker Park before I started taking a photo of every sign and the posted hours. Now I check the city code for Tuesdays and street sweeping dates before I even park, has anyone else had a ticket thrown out because the sign was technically outdated?

$380 is honestly a steal for a Wicker Park education, I paid almost double that learning the city hates me specifically. My favorite was getting dinged on a Tuesday because the sign said "no parking 9-11" but forgot to mention the street sweeper comes at 6am on the first Tuesday, which is a totally different rule. I took a pic of a sign once, zoomed in, and the paint was so faded it looked like a Rorschach test, the city clerk probably framed it as modern art. Now I just assume every curb has a secret trap and park like I'm in a heist movie, checking blind spots for little white stickers. Honestly the only thing that's ever gotten me out of a ticket is showing up to court with a photo of the sign covered in a tree branch, worked once, felt like a criminal mastermind.
