Jury duty in Cook County made me question the whole process

Had a talk with this older guy during voir dire last Tuesday, he was a retired cop from the 18th district. He told me he always answers the questions real short because if you sound too smart or too picky, they'll boot you. That hit different because I was doing the opposite, overthinking every answer, and now I wonder how many guilty or innocent cases hinge on people gaming the system. Anyone else feel like the jury selection is just a game of who says the least?
