Landlord said he'd keep my $1,400 deposit for 'normal wear' and I almost let it go
Honestly I was ready to just eat the loss on my Rogers Park apartment deposit because everyone keeps saying thats just how it goes here. Then a tenant organizer at a clinic on Devon handed me a one page checklist and pointed at one line about the 30 day rule for itemized receipts. Ngl I sent a certified letter with the checklist attached and he mailed me $1,150 back in 11 days without ever going to court. Tbh I keep thinking about how many people in my building just walked away from money like that. Has anyone actually taken a landlord to small claims here, and did filing the paperwork yourself work out?
