My backyard fence dispute took 9 months because I ignored the survey
I bought a house in Avondale back in March and put up a new privacy fence without checking the property line first. The neighbor came out yelling about 2 feet of encroachment, and I figured it was a quick chat to sort out. Nope, it dragged on for 9 months because we needed a licensed surveyor, then title company paperwork, then a written agreement drafted and notarized. The fence itself only took 3 days to build, but the legal headache to fix my mistake was the real project. Anyone else learn the hard way that verbal neighbor agreements mean nothing in Cook County?
