PSA: Blew $450 on a fake Chicago speeding ticket 'fixer' I found on a flyer
Saw a flyer on my car in the West Loop promising to wipe out tickets for a flat $450, and I was dumb enough to call the number. Guy met me at a Starbucks on Madison, took cash, gave me a handwritten receipt with a Yahoo email on it, and said he'd handle my two camera tickets from the Eisenhower. Three weeks later the tickets doubled with late fees, his number was dead, and the city said nobody ever filed anything for me. If you get one of those flyers, just pay the ticket or go to court yourself, it's way cheaper than getting scammed. Has anyone actually had luck fighting these camera tickets on their own?

The "just pay the ticket or go to court yourself" part is where I'd push back a little. Fighting camera tickets on your own is not always some easy win. I've gone that route twice and lost both times, and one of those was a red light camera where the photo was blurry as hell. The hearing officer basically looked at the timestamp and the plate and that was it. So yeah, the flyer guy is obviously a scam, but telling people DIY is "way cheaper" skips the part where you take a day off work, pay to park downtown, and still end up owing the full amount plus court costs. Sometimes paying early and getting the smaller fine is the smart move.
