Realized my landlord's 'standard lease' was hiding a fee trap in section 14

Found a $75 'administrative fee' buried in the renewal last week that wasn't in the original. Told my buddy who's a paralegal, he laughed and said that's a classic move. Anyone else get hit with surprise fees from Chicago landlords after the first year?

My landlord tried a $60 "paperwork fee" on my second lease in Logan Square, I just crossed it out and wrote "not agreed" next to it before signing and mailed it back, never heard about it again. That paralegal buddy of yours is right, most of these fees fold if you call their bluff.
