Serious question, did anyone else find out too late that ignoring a Cook County eviction notice does not make it go away?
I sat on mine for 12 days last month thinking my landlord was bluffing, then a sheriff's deputy knocked on my door in West Ridge and I found out a default judgment had already been entered against me. Has anyone fought one of these after the fact, and did showing up to court actually change anything for you?
What was the actual reason you gave for not opening it right away, just hoping it would blow over? I ask because the judge is going to want to hear something solid for why you missed the deadline, and "I thought he was bluffing" usually does not get you far. If you can show you never got proper notice or were dealing with something real at the time, that is a much stronger spot to argue from.
