A 30-year sweep in Portland told me my brush was too big and it cost me 2 jobs
Last month I was doing a job in an old house near Portland and the homeowner called another sweep for a second look because I kept getting stuck about 6 feet down. The other guy, who has been sweeping for 30 years, watched me for 2 minutes and said my brush was a full inch too wide for those narrow 1800s flues. I had been forcing it and scraping the mortar instead of actually cleaning the walls. Switched to a smaller poly brush and the next two jobs went twice as fast with way less mess. Anyone else run into this where the brush size you always used just does not fit older homes?
