Found out I've been using the wrong brush for masonry flues for 8 months

A homeowner in Boise asked if the plastic bristles on my brush were melting, and I realized that's why my poly brush kept looking so chewed up. Anyone else make a simple tool mistake that took way too long to notice?

Wait, you mean the plastic bristle brushes aren't meant for masonry flues at all? That's brutal man. Honestly I can totally see how that would happen though, you just grab something that looks like it'll scrub hard and figure it's good to go. I've definitely used the wrong sandpaper grit for way too long on a project before and ended up with scratches everywhere. It's one of those stupid mistakes where you're too focused on getting the job done to stop and think. But hey, 8 months of chewed up brushes is rough, at least you caught it before you wrecked the whole flue or something. Ngl stuff like this makes me feel better about my own bonehead moves.

Used a wire brush on my composite deck for a full season. Scratched the heck out of it. Felt like a total idiot when I finally read the cleaner bottle.

Oh man, that's rough... but honestly, those cleaner bottles might as well be written in tiny invisible ink. I never read them either until something goes wrong. It's like they expect you to be a mind reader. You just grab a brush that looks tough enough for the job. Now you've got that permanent textured look, I guess. A real bummer.

Scratched the heck out of it" is a feeling I know too well. I once power washed the paint right off my siding before checking the setting. We live and we learn, usually the hard way.
