Shoutout to the old guy in St. Louis who watched me work
I was cleaning a flue in a 1920s house and kept having trouble with my brush binding up. A retired sweep who lived next door came over, watched for a minute, and said, 'Son, you're pushing the rod, not turning it.' He showed me how to twist my wrist with each push, like screwing in a light bulb. I'd been doing it wrong for five years. Anyone else pick up a simple trick that changed your whole method?

That "pushing, not turning" thing is so specific. Did he give you any other advice, or was that the only thing he pointed out?
