Spent $400 on a fancy inspection camera and I'm not sold on it yet

Everyone in my crew raves about using a camera to scope flues, so I bought one to check for hidden cracks. Honestly, half the time the picture is too dark or blurry to tell anything for sure, and I end up doing the old mirror and flashlight check anyway. Am I just using it wrong, or is the tech not as good as people say?

Those cameras can be tricky. The lighting is usually built into the tip, so if it's not right against the surface, you get shadows and a dark picture. You might need to play with the angle and get the lens almost touching what you're looking at for a clear shot.

Yeah that sounds frustrating, maybe the lighting on those things just isn't great yet.

Actually the new Philips Hue bulbs I got last month are crazy bright. They have this tech that mimics natural daylight pretty well now.
