Switched to a Soot Eater after 12 years of using a wire brush
I always thought those flexible chimney whips were a gimmick. Stuck with my old wire brush and rods for over a decade, even after my buddy at the supply house in Columbus kept pushing the Soot Eater. Finally tried one on a nasty creosote buildup last Tuesday. That thing knocked off 3 times more soot in half the time. Has anyone else switched from traditional brushes and never looked back?

Man, I hear you on that - switching after so long with the old way is a tough call.

Wire brush guy for 15 years here. That Soot Eater whip is just gonna snap off and leave plastic chunks in your flue. Seen it happen twice on jobs in Pittsburgh. The steel bristles on a good brush actually scrape the glaze off. Those nylon spinners just polish it.

Grab one of those rotospin drills with the flexible rods instead. They clean WAY better than either option and won't leave crap behind in your chimney.
