The old way we used to check for creosote buildup feels almost forgotten now
I keep seeing newer sweeps just rely on a basic flashlight peek from the fireplace opening. Back in the day, my mentor in Albany always made me climb right up on the roof with a mirror to get a full, clean look at the entire flue. Missing a thick glaze spot in the middle third of a chimney because you didn't get the right angle is how you get a callback for a smoke issue, or worse. Does anyone still do a full visual from the top with every inspection?

So what's the actual standard now, a quick glance and hope for the best? If you're not getting that full top down view, how can you even sign off on the inspection being complete?

But seriously, what's the backup plan when you can't get that view? Do you just write it up as a limitation and move on, or does the whole process stop?

Yeah, I just note the limit like mason_reed47 said.
