Turned down using a shop vac for years, finally gave it a shot last week
I always figured a shop vac was overkill for chimney cleaning since I'd gotten by with just a drop cloth and a stiff brush for 15 years. But after a job in Portland left soot all over a customer's white carpet, I borrowed a buddy's vac and it cut my cleanup time in half. Has anyone else switched from the old way and never looked back?

Funny how that works though. Seems like so many things in life we just refuse to try because we got comfortable doing it the hard way. I notice it with my dad and smartphones - he swore he'd never use one for years, now he's on it more than me. Sometimes you don't know what you're missing until someone basically forces you to try it.

Seems like a lot of fuss over some soot though lol. Pretty sure a drop cloth and a bit of care woulda kept that white carpet clean too.

Dropping a tarp or drop cloth is common sense for a job like that. Nobody with half a brain would think they could just blow soot all over the place without covering up first. The carpet's ruined because someone skipped the obvious step.
