That thumbnail with the guy's shocked face got me to click on a video about dog nail trimming

I swear every pet grooming channel uses that same wide-eyed expression and it worked on me last Thursday even though I knew it was just a basic tutorial. Has anyone else fallen for the "you won't believe this grooming hack" thumbnails only to get a 10 minute video about a straight clipper blade?

Are we really this upset about free content though? I mean @kai_burns73 you clicked three times man, that's on you at this point. These thumbnails are basically just modern day infomercials and we all know the drill by now. Yeah they're annoying but a 10 minute video you can skip through in 30 seconds isn't exactly a tragedy. If anything I'm more annoyed that my YouTube recommendations are now filled with dog grooming content for the next month. You guys are acting like you paid for a movie ticket and got a slideshow. Just close the tab and move on with your day.

Started watching dog grooming videos after my own pup got matted... ended up falling down a rabbit hole of people arguing about clipper sizes for an hour. @mark_chen62 you're totally right though, that algorithm swipe is brutal. I had to clear my history after I got recommended a video called "poodle recovery after bad haircut" like three days in a row. Clicked on a thumbnail once that promised "10 minute golden retriever transformation" and it was literally just a guy brushing the same spot for eight minutes straight. Learned my lesson the hard way, now I just skip if the video has more than two pauses in the first minute.

Three separate times this month I clicked on one where the thumbnail had a guy holding up a pair of clippers with dollar signs in his eyes. Every single video was just "make sure your blade is sharp" repeated for 12 minutes. The worst one had a clickbait title about trimming black nails and it was literally just a guy showing his white dog's pink nails. I actually laughed out loud when I realized I got played again.
