I went with solar panels over a new HVAC system and I'm catching heat from my neighbors

My house has a 15 year old AC that still works fine, but everybody said to replace it first before putting $12k into solar panels. I did solar anyway because I figure I'm cutting my electric bill by 60% and the AC can run off that, so who's right here?

My buddy Dave did the exact same thing last year with his 18 year old AC unit in Phoenix. All his neighbors told him he was crazy for not swapping out that old unit first. He dropped $14k on panels, told everyone to chill, and his electric bill went from $320 a month to $110. That old AC actually ran better on the solar juice than it ever did before. Now three of those same neighbors are asking him for his solar guy's number.
