My neighbor who works at the county told me to stop bagging my leaves last fall

He said just mulch them into the lawn with the mower and I was skeptical but tried it on my quarter acre in Denver and this spring my grass is way greener than it's ever been, plus I saved 12 bucks on paper bags every week - has anyone else had luck with this or am I just getting lucky with the weather?

Mulch those leaves, man. It works. Your neighbor was right. I've been doing it for years on my half acre. Soil gets free food, grass goes crazy green. You saved $12 a week and your lawn's thanking you. Lucky weather? Maybe a little. But keep mulching, you'll see it works every time.

Yeah I was actually just reading about this, some university ag extension did a study on it. They said mulching leaves back into the lawn adds like all the nitrogen your grass needs for the whole year basically. Saves you from buying fertilizer in the fall. And it's not just the free food thing, it helps the soil hold water better too. I tried it on my own lawn a few seasons back after my neighbor kept pushing it, and honestly my grass is way thicker now than when I used to bag everything up. The key is just running over them enough times till they're little bits, not big clumps left sitting. People worry about smothering the grass but the mower chops them up fine.

Did your friend have any trouble with oak leaves or the really tough ones?
