Our neighborhood solar co-op fell apart after the inverter failed

We got 34 homes signed up in Springfield last spring, paid $18,000 total for the group install, and then the main inverter died in June during a heatwave. The installer kept blaming the utility for voltage spikes, but three months of calls got us nowhere and half the families want their money back. I spent my weekends filing paperwork with the state consumer board, and we finally got a replacement last week, but now two neighbors are suing the contractor. Has anyone else dealt with a solar co-op installer who ghosts you after the check clears?

Read a Facebook post from a solar installer warning that co-ops need independent inspections before final payment.

Heard the same thing happening in a town near us last year. Always get a contract clause for failures.
