Overheard a city planner at a bus stop, now I get the grid
Last week I was waiting for the 5 bus downtown and this planner was talking about how adding one protected lane cut car trips by 12% in a year. I used to think bike lanes were just for fit folks in spandex. But he said it was about giving people options, not forcing anyone. Now I actually support the new lane on 7th even though parking got tighter. Has anyone else changed their mind on a local project after hearing the numbers?

It was probably closer to a 10% drop, since that's what most cities report when they add a lane like that. Still a good number, but easy to hear wrong at a busy stop.
