TIL my town's recycling was getting burned for years until a neighbor showed me the truck route

I live in a small town near Portland and just found out our recycling was being incinerated because our facility closed back in 2018. A neighbor who works for the county showed me the actual route map and it all goes to a waste-to-energy plant 40 miles away. Has anyone else checked if their recycling actually gets recycled or just burned?

Saw a report saying those plants in Europe actually generate enough power for THOUSANDS of homes, which is kind of impressive when you think about it. But yeah @lunar89, I gotta agree the name sounds like something from a sci-fi movie, not real life.
