A 5 minute chat with the old timer changed how I set my offsets
I used to just zero off the stock corner and trust the math, but this old guy named Dave who runs the cell next to mine at work pulled me aside and showed me how much the tool can flex on a long stick-out. He said to touch off the tool with the spindle actually running at 10 grand because the holder expands and moves things by a few tenths, then run a test ring and adjust the wear offset by what I actually measure. Anyone else get a tip that made you feel dumb for how long you did it the other way?
