A old timer at a job fair changed my mind on digital tool setters

I was dead set against buying a digital tool setter until I talked to a 65 year old machinist at a trade show in Cleveland. He showed me how his saved 12 minutes per setup on a run of 80 parts. Has anyone else had a stubborn opinion flipped by someone with decades more experience?

12 minutes per setup" huh? That old timer probably saved enough time to retire 5 minutes earlier by the end of the job. I swear, guys like that could sell ice to an Eskimo with stories about how much time something saves. Next thing you know, he'll convince me to buy a $500 tool setter just so I can spend 12 extra minutes on lunch. Clever feller, I'll give him that.

Honestly, that mindset goes way beyond the shop floor. It's the same deal with people who insist on spending three hours meal prepping on a Sunday to "save time" during the week, when really you could just throw together a sandwich in five minutes. Tbh, it's like the computer guy who says his custom keyboard saves him 0.3 seconds per keystroke, and you just nod along wondering when you'll see the payoff.
