A setup guy in Tulsa told me to quit sneaking up on my offsets, and my scrap rate dropped
I used to dial in my tool offsets in tiny increments, maybe 2 or 3 thousandths at a time, thinking I was being careful. The setup guy at the shop in Tulsa watched me do it and said I was just dragging out the crash, so he had me make one full pass at the real number and check it. How do you all handle your first part on a new setup, do you creep up on it or just send it?

Man, this is the same thing as when I used to edge the lawn mower deck down a notch at a time thinking I would scalp it, and my dad just dropped it to the height he wanted and sent it. Creeping up feels safe but half the time you are just burning an hour and a part anyway. The Tulsa guy was right, make the real cut and measure, then adjust once. All that piddling around just delays the moment you find out if your number was even close.
