Hot take: thought I knew how to tram a vise until a 0.003 taper ate 45 minutes of setup time
I spent an entire afternoon chasing a slight angle on a part only to realize my vise jaw had a microscopic burr I missed with the stone, has anyone else had a simple setup turn into a whole debug session?

A 0.003 taper ate 45 minutes? That sounds like rookie numbers honestly lol. Did you check if your parallels were clean too or just the jaw?

Bet the 0.003 was just from a worn out indicator tip.

Rookie numbers" got me thinking though, I feel like that's how a lot of stuff goes these days. You spend 45 minutes chasing a tiny measurement, and it's almost never the obvious thing. Maybe it's just me but the bigger pattern is we always look for the big complex problem first when it's usually something simple and dumb.
