I thought those cheap magnetic work lights were a total gimmick
My coworker in Cincinnati brought one in and clamped it inside a deep pocket on a steel part. The shadow-free light on the tool path was a game changer for spotting chatter marks. Anyone have a specific brand that holds up to coolant spray?

Calling them a gimmick is a bit harsh, they're just a simple tool. The magnet and clamp combo is the whole point for getting light where you need it. My old shop used some generic ones from the hardware store that lasted a year in the mist. The key is checking the rubber seal around the switch, that's where the coolant usually gets in.

Yeah, and I learned that seal lesson the hard way. Bought a cheap one that died in a month because I didn't check that. Felt pretty dumb, like I'd tried to save five bucks and just lit it on fire. That rubber bit is everything if you're working anywhere damp.

Remember my buddy Carl? He bought one of those cheap clamp lights for his garage sink area. The thing looked fine, but that switch seal was basically just for show. One humid week later, it just fizzed out. He took it apart and the inside was already getting that green fuzzy look. Total waste because he didn't look close at the rubber first.

Got a link to the one your coworker uses? Those seals are key, my last one died fast in the mist.
