Teaching a new guy the control arm on a Haas VF-2SS last Tuesday and realized I've been picking up chips wrong for years

I was showing this kid how to sweep out the enclosure and he pointed out I was pushing chips toward the auger instead of using the coolant stream to wash them down. Tried his way on the next part cycle and it cut my cleanup time almost in half. Has anyone else had a noob humble you with something obvious?

Figured out after ten years that I'd been holding my broom like a caveman dragging a club... felt about two inches tall when the kid showed me. But hey, at least I learned something before I retired and passed on the wrong technique. Guess that's what happens when you think you've got it all figured out.

Hey, slow down there. Is cutting cleanup time in half really that big of a deal? I mean, we're talking about sweeping chips, not shaving minutes off a 12 hour cycle time right? The kid might be onto something, sure, but I've been doing it my way for 15 years and my machines are still running fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Tell me, is the coolant stream method actually saving you that much time or is it just a different way of doing the same job? Last I checked, chips still end up in the same place either way. I wouldn't go rewriting the manual over it.
