Tried a new way to set tool offsets and it's way faster
I've been doing the touch-off method with a piece of paper for years on my Haas. Last month I watched a guy at a shop down in Austin use a digital height setter instead. Took like 10 seconds per tool vs a minute fumbling with paper. Anyone else make the switch to a digital setter or still using the old way?

Did you see that Haas video where they demo the digital setter? Changed my workflow too.

Digital setters are just an excuse to not develop real operator skill with manual tools (and they break too often for my taste). Give me a good old edge finder and a tenths indicator any day.

I swapped over to a digital height setter about six months ago on my Fadal and it literally cut my setup time in half. I used to be that guy with the paper too, fighting to feel that tiny bit of drag without crushing it. The digital setter just gives me a consistent reading every time and I don't have to second guess myself. Honestly, I still use paper for the first tool of the day to double check if the setter is on zero, but after that it's smooth sailing.
