Update: I used to set my tool offsets by hand for every job on the old VF-2
After a crash last month that cost about $500 in parts, I started using the probe cycle for every tool change. It cut my setup time in half and I haven't had a bad offset since. Who else made the switch from manual to probe and what was the biggest thing you noticed?

Totally get what you're saying, the_robin, I used to feel the same about the extra time. After my own crash though, that air cutting feels cheap compared to a wreck. The biggest change for me was the mental load, just not having that little voice in my head second-guessing every offset.

But that mental load @the_robin mentioned is exactly why the extra air cutting is worth it for peace of mind.

Get what you're saying Fiona, that mental load thing is so real. It's like every time I let the machine do it, I can just relax and not have that nagging feeling something's off. @kimw57 nailed it about how cheap air cutting feels compared to the cost of a crash, that little bit of extra time is totally worth it for not having to second-guess yourself all day.

Cut setup time in half? That probe cycle adds so much extra air cutting time to every job though. I'd rather trust my hands and save the machine runtime.
