Went to a trade show in Detroit and realized we all chase the wrong speeds

Stopped by the big automation expo last Thursday with my buddy from the shop. We spent 6 hours walking the floor and every booth was pushing faster spindles, quicker tool changes, all that. Then I saw this one old machine running a simple aluminum part, no bells and whistles, just humming along at a modest 8,000 rpm. The guy running it said his scrap rate dropped to 1.2% after he stopped maxing out the feed. Made me think about my own setup back home, I've been pushing my Haas harder every job just because I can. Any of you other operators find that backing off the speed actually saves you more time in the long run?
