Why I started listening to the machine instead of just the computer
I always set up jobs based only on the CAD file without much thought. Then I made a part that passed simulation but came out with bad surface finish. An older guy in the shop told me to pay attention to the sound of the cut and the chip color. He said sometimes the machine tells you more than the software does. Now I watch and listen during the first few runs every time. This simple habit has helped me catch issues before they ruin parts. I guess there's no substitute for paying attention to the real world, lol.

Beyond that sizzle sound, bakers use smell to know when bread's done.

Listening to that sizzle sound must be key for welders. @daniela85, when bakers use smell, is it something they learn over time or more like a natural gift? Like, do apprentice bakers struggle to catch that done-bread scent at first? What about chefs who judge a sauce by how it looks and smells, not just a timer? Makes you wonder how much of these jobs is just built-in human sense versus trained skill.

Can you take that idea to other jobs? A welder I know judges his bead by the sizzle sound it makes. Guess some things you have to hear to believe.
